Maria earned a BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MEd in Counselor Education from University of North Carolina Greensboro. She is an NC Licensed Professional Counselor a National Certified Counselor, and a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor. She is currently working toward a Certification in Thanatology (the study of death, dying, and bereavement.
Maria has clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has helped many clients overcome suffering from depression, anxiety, divorce, PTSD, sexual abuse, eating disorders, childhood behavioral problems, and adjustment disorders. She assists clients with relationship problems, including parenting and couples issues. Maria uses Christ-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic approaches to help you achieve your goals. In addition, she uses art, play, and family therapy with children 6 years and older.
Maria has a particular interest in working with college students and single adults with life transition issues. She also enjoys helping clients of all ages to deal with grief and loss issues, whether through death, divorce, health issues, job loss or relationship loss.
Maria is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the Christian Care Network, the International Board of Christian Counselors, the Association for Death Education and Counseling, and the NC Association of Death, Dying and Bereavement
She has served on the Board and Advisory Board of the LifeCare Pregnancy Center in Raleigh.She has also served the children and families of Step-Up Ministry.
